Garlic Parmesan Toast

Perfect side dish for any camping meal!

One of my family's favorite side dishes is my homemade garlic parmesan bread. It's cheesy, crunchy and full of flavor.

One thing I love about this side is that you can customize it. You won't find me using the same type of bread two times in a row. If I have the time, I will make a loaf of my no knead, crunchy dutch oven bread. That recipe takes a couple days to complete, so sometimes a quick trip to our local grocer is needed for a quick, fresh artisan loaf.

Let's talk cheese! I personally love using shredded parmesan cheese so it will cover the bread without being overwhelming. You can mix it up and add other cheeses, like asiago or mozzarella cheese. We've even used the powdered parmesan cheese when a certain someone forgot to pack the shredded cheese. The point is, anything will work!

Everything is better with garlic. Period. This is the Italian way. I use minced garlic on each slice of bread to give it that bold, garlic flavor. As much as I love garlic, I still don't want a mouth full, so I limit the amount of garlic to roughly 1/4 teaspoon per slice (depending on the size of the slice of bread).

Cooking the garlic bread is simple in the dutch oven! Start by preheating the dutch oven over medium heat. Add just roughly 2 teaspoons of olive oil to the pan. When the oil is hot you can add slices of the bread to the pan. Flip bread over and toast the other side. Remove from pan. Add the garlic and cheese on the bread. Place aluminum foil in the dutch oven and add the prepared bread. Cover with lid for at least 2 minutes, or until cheese is melted.

Buon apetito!
